Job Description

The Compute Hardware Engineering team designs, builds, and maintains all of the Compute hardware across Target’s on-prem locations.  This includes our Enterprise Data Centers that house all of our centralized platforms and applications as well our Distributed and Edge locations at our 1,800+ Stores and 40+ Distribution Centers.

We strive to build innovative designs and specifications to house enterprise scale solutions across our virtualization products, cloud platforms, storage and data capabilities, and HPC.  We look to abstract our compute solutions and capabilities as much as possible and deliver the infrastructure through in-house developed APIs and open source projects.

We have started our journey towards implementing Open Hardware to fulfill this demand.  We partner closely with our Network and Data Center teams to deliver unified Infrastructure that is performant, reliable, and scalable to Target’s ever-growing needs!   If you have experience in delivering Open Hardware at scale and are energized by delivering these capabilities through code, this position is for you!

  • Experience in design and build of Open Hardware / OCP Compute hardware solutions at scale – in a data center and at Edge

  • In-Depth understanding of global Compute hardware supply chain including ODM vendor landscape

  • Experience solving complex infrastructure and compute delivery through API/Code/HaaS capabilities including Hardware provisioning & management, Firmware/BIOS updates, and Reliability/SLI/SLO

  • Deep understanding of Compute hardware component technologies and industry roadmaps including processor/cpu, memory, smart NIC, GPU/FPGA,  disk & storage, and network

  • Experience with Network and Data Center capabilities and infrastructure

  • Demonstrates broad and deep expertise in multiple computer languages and frameworks (e.g., open source). Designs, develops, and approves end-to-end functionality of a product line, platform, or infrastructure

  • Communicates and coordinates with project team, partners, and stakeholders

  • 4 year degree or equivalent experience

  • 7+ years of software development experience with at least one full cycle implementation
